Client Overview

The Brendale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a major grid-scale energy storage project located adjacent to the South Pine Substation in Brisbane’s northern suburbs. Developed by Akaysha Energy, the facility has an operational capacity of 205 MW / 410 MWh and plays an important role in strengthening grid stability, supporting renewable energy integration and providing fast-response energy services to the National Electricity Market. Consolidated Power Projects (CPP) was appointed as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project.

As with many large-scale battery energy storage systems, operational noise management formed a critical component of the facility’s design. The acoustic infrastructure needed to achieve regulatory compliance while integrating seamlessly with the broader electrical infrastructure and long-term operation of the site.

Wallmark was engaged by CPP to design, engineer, construct and certify a custom acoustic noise barrier that would provide reliable long-term noise mitigation while supporting the operational requirements of one of Queensland’s largest battery energy storage projects.

Engineering Solution

The project comprised a purpose-designed 50-metre long by 8-metre high concrete acoustic noise barrier engineered specifically for the Brendale BESS.

Concrete was selected for its excellent acoustic performance, inherent durability and maintenance-free finish, making it particularly well suited to critical energy infrastructure expected to operate continuously over its design life. The barrier was engineered to integrate with the site’s civil and electrical infrastructure while providing effective attenuation of operational equipment noise.

Wallmark completed the full design, engineering, construction and certification of the barrier, delivering a robust acoustic solution tailored to the unique requirements of a utility-scale battery energy storage facility.

The completed acoustic barrier now forms part of the permanent infrastructure supporting the Brendale Battery Energy Storage System.
