Client Overview
The Greenbank Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a major renewable energy infrastructure project located adjacent to the Greenbank Substation in Queensland. Developed to strengthen the state’s electricity network, the facility incorporates 108 Tesla Megapack battery units with an operational capacity of 200 MW / 400 MWh, providing reliable energy storage that supports renewable energy generation and grid stability.
Consolidated Power Projects (CPP) was appointed as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project.
Like all utility-scale battery energy storage facilities, operational noise management formed a critical part of the project. Cooling systems, inverters and transformers generate continuous operational noise that must comply with strict environmental requirements while allowing the facility to operate efficiently.
Wallmark was engaged by CPP to design, engineer, construct and certify a purpose-designed steel acoustic barrier that would deliver long-term noise attenuation while integrating with the operational requirements of one of Queensland’s largest battery energy storage systems.

Engineering Solution
Wallmark delivered a custom-designed 220-metre steel acoustic barrier ranging in height from 7.5 metres to 8.5 metres to enclose the battery installation and reduce operational noise from the Tesla Megapack units.
Galvanised steel panels with an architectural painted finish were selected to provide long-term durability, low maintenance and proven acoustic performance for critical energy infrastructure. The barrier was engineered to integrate with the site’s civil and electrical infrastructure while maintaining operational functionality throughout the facility.
A key feature of the project was the incorporation of a custom-designed removable access cartridge with integrated gates. The system provides secure day-to-day site access while allowing the complete cartridge to be removed when unrestricted maintenance or emergency access is required, ensuring the acoustic barrier supports both operational performance and ongoing asset management.
Wallmark completed the full design, engineering, construction and certification of the acoustic barrier, delivering an integrated solution tailored to the operational requirements of a utility-scale battery energy storage facility.

Project Outcomes
The completed acoustic barrier now forms part of the permanent infrastructure supporting the Greenbank Battery Energy Storage System.
The purpose-designed steel barrier delivers effective long-term operational noise management while helping the facility satisfy Queensland environmental noise requirements through a durable, low-maintenance acoustic solution engineered specifically for renewable energy infrastructure.
The project demonstrates Wallmark’s ability to deliver integrated acoustic barrier solutions that combine acoustic performance with operational functionality, supporting the continued growth of battery energy storage projects across Australia while helping developers meet compliance, community and operational objectives.
