Mixed-use developments bring residential, commercial, industrial, retail and community spaces together within the same precinct. While this is an ideal solution to maximise urban housing opportunities in growing cities, noise conflicts can arise when homes are located close to commercial activity, vehicle movements, loading and service areas, mechanical plant and other operations that generate noise throughout the day and night.
Effective acoustic design helps these different uses coexist, creating developments that work for residents, businesses and the surrounding community. Permanent noise walls provide a practical way to manage these acoustic interfaces, while also forming part of the physical and visual fabric of the development.
Wallmark works with project teams to design and deliver noise wall solutions that meet the required acoustic performance while responding to the site, structural, architectural and construction requirements of the project.

On mixed-use developments, the noise wall can often resolve several project requirements within the same structure.
Permanent boundary walls
Where the acoustic alignment follows a site boundary, the noise wall can also provide the permanent boundary treatment, incorporating privacy, security and project-specific finishes.
Integrated retaining and acoustic walls
Where levels change along the boundary, retaining and acoustic requirements can be engineered together rather than treated as separate structures.
Acrylic and mixed-material walls
Acrylic sections can be introduced above or between solid panels where additional height is required without unnecessarily blocking natural light or views. Corten, painted panel systems and other materials can also be combined along the same alignment.
Integrated gates and access
Pedestrian, vehicle and maintenance access can be incorporated into the wall design so openings, framing and adjoining barrier sections are resolved as part of the acoustic system.
Engineered around the site
Wallmark develops the structural solution around the actual conditions of the project, including:
Wallmark has delivered permanent noise walls reaching 8 metres and above, with project-specific structural solutions where height, services or site constraints require something beyond a standard wall arrangement.
Steel Noise Wall Systems
Steel noise walls provide a robust, non-combustible solution where acoustic performance, durability and architectural finish are all important. Wallmark offers Corten and galvanised steel systems, supported by hot-dip galvanised structural posts and configurable to suit project-specific heights, site conditions and finishes.
Steel systems can also incorporate Perspex sections, including above solid panels, where additional barrier height is required while maintaining natural light. This makes steel particularly suited to prominent boundaries where the noise wall also forms part of the permanent architectural treatment of the development.
Lightweight Noise Wall Systems
Wallmark’s lightweight systems provide a versatile, cost-effective alternative where installation efficiency and acoustic performance are priorities. Our reflective panels offer sound reduction rated to Rw28 and weight 15kg/m2. They are durable, weather-resistant and can be supplied pre-painted or ready for painting to integrate with the development.
Perfect for mixed-use developments, urban environments, transportation hubs and commercial spaces that require advanced noise control and design flexibility, Wallmark ensures every project receives a tailored solution that meets compliance, enhances site functionality, and fits seamlessly into the built environment.
Wallmark provides design, engineering, construction and certification for mixed-use noise wall projects, bringing the acoustic, structural and site requirements together within one package.
Whether the project requires an integrated boundary wall, retaining solution, high acoustic barrier or a combination of materials and systems, our team can develop a solution around the specific requirements of the development.
